SCHOOL INDUCTION PROGRAM-DAY 1
October 21,2024
Today was our first day of the school induction program. We arrived at GHSS Jawahar school,Ayoor at 9:15 AM as a group of six teacher trainees: myself(Arathi.B.G) and Akshaya from the Natural science option;Ashna Reji and Ashwathy from the Mathematics option; and Alaka and Summaya from the Physical science option. Ashna Reji was our leader. We approached the school Headmistress's room and our leader handed over the request from our college along with the attendance register to the HM Deepa miss. Deepa miss gave us some instructions and asked the school peon to clean the room near the staff room for us. We signed the register and settled into the allotted room. In the meantime, our Sreedevi Miss came to school to observe the senior teacher trainees, giving us opportunity to receive some advice from her as well.
REFLECTION ON SCHOOL EXPERIENCE
By 10.00 AM , the school prayer started. After that, classes began. When all the teachers arrived, we met the concerned subject teachers, requested class observations, and shared lessons. We also took some time to observe the school and its surroundings and interacted with a few students.
As this was our first day, we didn't have classes to observe. Instead, we had the opportunity to assist with evaluating and entering details for the National Achievement Survey(NAS) conducted today. The NAS is a national level assessment of learning achievements of school students, covering classes 3,5,8 and 10 in government -aided, private and central government schools. It assesses students in various subjects, including language, mathematic, science, social science and environmental studies.
By 1 PM, the lunch started and we served students lunch, which included rice, sambar and beetroot thoran. This is part of the Midday Meal Scheme. In Kerala, the Midday Meal Scheme began in 1984 and consists of providing cooked meals to school children. During school intervals, students engage in extracurricular activities such as playing football, "kallukali"(a traditional game using pebbles), etc. These activities help students develop both their physical and mental health. School was till 4 PM. We marked our attendance in the register and left the school.
