A DAY AT SUB-DISTRICT KALOLSAVAM
A DAY AS AN NSS VOLUNTEER AT SUBDISTRICT KALOLSAVAM
11 NOVEMBER 2024
Today , we the students of Sabarigiri college of Education, had the opportunity to serve as NSS Volunteers at GHSS Anchal East School for the Subdistrict Kalolsavam. A total of 52 teacher trainees, including myself, arrived at the school by 8:45 AM, as instructed by our NSS coordinator, Jaseena Ma'am. After gathering at a designated corner, we marked our attendance and collected our badges. We the had a quick photo session with the school authorities before receiving instructions for our duties.
We then
had a quick photo session with the school authorities before receiving
instructions for our duties. We were guided to the Program Committee room,
where our responsibilities were assigned. Malavika and I were given Room No. 12
as our designated area.
Upon
entering, we found one teacher coordinator already present. The competitions to
be held in the room included Sanskrit story writing, poem writing, essay
writing, and "Samasya Pooranam" for students from the UP, HS, and HSS
levels. Our first task was to arrange the desks and benches, ensuring there was
enough seating for all the students to be comfortable. By 10:30 AM, the judges
arrived and assigned topics for each competition. I distributed writing sheets,
collected signatures, and assigned code numbers to the students. As the
students began writing, we observed their progress and provided additional sheets
when needed. Some students were participating in multiple competitions at the
same time, which caused scheduling conflicts and created a bit of pressure for
both the students and us. It was a challenging, but rewarding, experience. By
1:30 PM, all the competitions in our room had concluded. We collected the
completed papers and went to the Program Committee room to hand them over in
the correct order. It was a new and exciting experience for us to be part of
such a well-organized event.
Afterwards,
it was time for lunch. The school provided a wrapped meal consisting of fried
rice, cauliflower curry, salad, and pickle. We were all quite hungry, and the
food was delicious, which made the break even more satisfying.
Our next
duty was in the Trophy Keeping Room. Some of us were assigned to clean the
trophies, which would be given to the participants and the overall winners of
the competitions. By 3:30 PM, after marking our attendance, we left the school, feeling
accomplished and content after a day full of learning and service.
Today’s experience as an NSS volunteer at the Subdistrict Kalolsavam was both challenging and rewarding. Looking back, I realize that it not only helped me develop important skills but also taught me valuable lessons about teamwork, responsibility, and time management. One of the best things I learned today was the importance of teamwork. Although we were each assigned different tasks, we all worked together toward a common goal: ensuring the smooth conduct of the competitions. Also one important lesson was smooth time management.
