CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME- LIFE SKILLS
LIFE SKILLS- CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME
January 15, 2025
On January 15, 2025, our college’s general hall witnessed a Capacity Building Programme on Life Skills, organized in association with the IQAC and Counseling Cell. This program aimed to enhance participants’ skills and knowledge, equipping them with essential tools to excel in their respective fields. The event began at 9:30 am and was inaugurated by our honorable principal, Dr. G. Roy.
The program commenced with a warm welcome speech by Anupama. Anchoring duties were gracefully handled by Silla, and Bhavyasena delivered the felicitation, appreciating the relevance of such initiatives. The session was conducted by the esteemed Dr. Bindhu, who used an engaging PowerPoint presentation enriched with videos to make the session interactive and impactful.
Dr. Bindhu began the session by highlighting the differences between traditional and modern education systems. She introduced the three C’s of skill development: Capacity, Capability, and Competency. Moving forward, she explained life skills as defined by WHO and UNICEF and their significance in day-to-day life. She classified the five core skills and elaborated on their subdivisions, providing clarity and insight. An interesting activity followed, where participants were asked to list the skills and qualities of a teacher, friend, relative, politician, businessman, and social worker they personally knew. Some participants, including me, got the opportunity to share our thoughts, which made the session lively and engaging. This activity encouraged self-reflection and deeper understanding of essential traits in different roles.
The session also covered self-awareness extensively. Dr. Bindhu introduced methods like SWOT analysis and the Johari Window to help us understand ourselves better. She spoke about multiple intelligences, including empathy, sympathy, interpersonal skills, effective communication, and critical thinking. The session concluded with a focus on coping with emotions, emphasizing strategies to manage stress and enhance emotional resilience. Then we all dispersed for lunch break.
