On January 15, 2025, in the afternoon session of the Capacity Building Programme on Stress Management, Arya welcomed us back with an energetic speech. This session, held in our college’s general hall in association with the IQAC and Counseling Cell, was designed to deepen our understanding of stress management and coping strategies.
The session began at 1:45 pm with an interactive activity where a few students were invited to talk about their abilities and skills. I, too, had the opportunity to speak, which was both enlightening and engaging. Dr. Bindhu then introduced the topic of stress management. She explained the concept of stress, distinguishing between distress and eustress, and introduced us to the HPA axis, which involves the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and adrenal gland. She elaborated on how cortisol functions during a 'fight or flight' response and discussed the roles of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. The manifestations of stress and effective strategies to manage it were also covered.
Throughout the session, Dr. Bindhu made learning enjoyable by including interesting games that re-energized the participants. These activities highlighted the importance of staying mindful and present. The session also delved into fundamental stress management techniques, including understanding stress triggers, coping mechanisms, and effective communication.. Dr. Bindhu emphasized the importance of applying these skills in real-life scenarios and the consequences of neglecting them.
The program concluded with a self-realization exercise involving breathing techniques and sensory stimulation, leaving everyone feeling refreshed and inspired. Following this, there was a doubt-clearing session where participants actively engaged with the speaker. Haseena delivered the vote of thanks, expressing our collective gratitude to Dr. Bindhu for her insightful session. We all reflected on the session’s lessons and appreciated the opportunity to learn and grow.
This afternoon session was not only informative but also deeply impactful, equipping us with practical tools to handle stress and enhance our personal and professional lives.
