On January 08 , we celebrated National Bird Day at college general hall with a vibrant event . National Bird Day is celebrated on January 5th each year to raise awareness about the importance of birds in the ecosystem and to promote their conservation. The Avian Welfare Coalition established the day in 2002. The program aimed to raise awareness about the importance of birds and the need for their conservation.
The event began with Ameena’s welcoming address, followed by Akshaya, who shared insights into the significance of National Bird Day. Arya highlighted the diseases affecting birds, while Aparna engaged the audience with an exciting quiz. Muhsina discussed endangered bird species and ongoing conservation efforts, and Nuju presented the event's theme, stressing the importance of protecting nature. Bhavana spoke about the life and work of the famous ornithologist, Salim Ali. Then, Ameena welcomed Principal Roy sir and Head of the Department Sreedevi Miss to present "Flight of Fancy," a handmade photo album created by teacher trainees of the Natural Science Department. The album showcased photos of different birds taken by the students, highlighting local species. The Principal appreciated the students' effort and creativity as they gifted the album to the college library, enriching the institution's resource collection and emphasizing the importance of bird conservation. Then Pooja and I recited a poem "Oru Pattu Pinneyum" (Once Again a Song) which was written by the nature poet and social activist Sugathakumari. The poem is about a crippled bird the t has lost its habitat due to human urbanization. Anuroop concluded the event with a vote of thanks, appreciating everyone’s participation. It was a meaningful day that reminded us of our responsibility to protect our feathered friends and their habitats.
