TEACHING PRACTICE PHASE I : WEEK 1
Monday to Friday : 14/07/2025 to 18/07/2025
INTRODUCTION
Our first phase of teaching practice is at GHSS Karukone from 14/07/2025 to 26/09/2025.The principal of Sabarigiri College of Education, Anchal Dr. G. Roy alloted four students to the school. I (Arathi.B.G) and Akshaya.S from Natural science department, Aishwarya and Gopika from physical science department. Our department head Sreedevi miss provided us with all necessary instructions, guidance and support for completing our teaching manual, selective activities for models for teaching and preparing teaching aids for teaching practice.
REFLECTION ON SCHOOL EXPERIENCE
We the teacher trainees allotted to G.H.S.S Karukone reached school at 9.30am everyday, then signed our register and stayed in the staff room, where our teacher allotted us to sit. On the first day we collected time table from our concerned teacher Renija miss and 8B and 9B are my concerned classes which is English medium. Day started with prayer song by school choir. We were getting too know about the school environment . Lunch break starts at 1 pm. We had lunch and we did our duties. Sixth period I went to 9A for substitution. I introduced then and they introduced one by one. I gave them some activities. Then at 4pm we the teacher trainees marked attendance in the register and left the school.
In the second day(15/07/2025) we all teacher trainees reached school by 9.30 am. We signed the attendance register and get in to the allotted staff room of ours. After prayer we got list of substitution. Second period I have my concerned class 9B ,I taught "Nutrients, types and examples". Third period I went to substitution to 9B and taught another small topic ' food plate'. Eighth period I got substitution in 8A. After national anthem we signed attendance register and left school.
In the third day( 16/07/2025) we all teacher trainees reached school by 9.30 am. We signed the attendance register and get in to the allotted staff room. Today was assembly day, so as part of JRF there was a zumba dance. all students actively participated in zumba especially preprimary students. I didn't have any concerned class period today. First period I had substitution in 8A. Fourth period I had substitution 9C and gave some activities to the students. Then we signed attendance register and left school.
In the fourth day(17/07/2025)after signing attendance register,we got to allotted staff room. Today our Natural science dept miss Sreedevi miss came for my observation. First period I had my concerened class 8B. I taught "irrigation methods". Teacher made some suggestions to improve. During lunch time we served meals to students. Though today was parents meeting there was no class afternoon. I had concerend class 9B as 5th period. I gave some notes to the students. Then parents meeting started. 6th and 7th period I got duty to conduct 'Vagmayam bhasha prathibha exam' for UP section along with other teachers. 8th period I got substitution in 9B class. After signing attendance we left school.
In the fifth day(18/07/2025) there was no school periods because of strike. But we reached school by 9.30 and signed the attendance register and get to the allotted staffroom. As part of 'Varna kudaram' Program inaguration on monday school decided to spread publicity by notice distribution and flash mob by school students. So by 10.30 we all teacher trainees along with HM, teachers and students we get into school bus. We stopped at three junctions- Puthayam junction,Karukone junction and Channapetta junction and presented dance by UP students and Zumba dance by HS students. It was so exciting and new experience. UP students were so lovable and fun. By 2 'O' clock we finished the programme and reached school. Then HM discussed planning and our duties for Monday program. I was put in Documentation committee. Then we signed attendance register and left school.
CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
In this week the students of 9th and 8th standard were taught using of teaching manual from their chapters. For 9th standard students I taught topics, 'Nutrients, types and examples' and 'Food plate and Balanced diet' from chapter Digestive system and transport system. For 8th standard students I taught topic' Irrigation methods' from their chapter 'Lets cultivate and reap goodness'. Teaching aids such as charts,cutouts,videos,slides were used appropriately based on the topic taught. The reflective journals were also done in this week.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Extra curricular activities in this week were the practice of zumba dance by HS students and practice for Monday inauguration program. For UP section we conducted Vagmaya bhasha prathibha exam. As part of 'Varna kudaram' Program inaguration going to be held on monday school decided to spread publicity by notice distribution and flash mob by school students. So we all teacher trainees along with HM, teachers and students presented a flash mob by students at Puthayam junction,Karukone junction and Channapetta junction.

Lesson template
Positives: Clear classroom induction components and prerequisites were noted.
Negatives: Do not noted your objectives and outcomes as needed.
The lesson template is satisfactory.
Set Induction
Positives: Sets a conducive environment, intellectual curiosity of the students were aroused. Interesting, purposeful
Negatives: Only few prerequisites were checked. Was not elaborate.
Set induction is good.
Development of lesson
Positives: Good presentation, Sound, voice modulation good.
Ist concept-green house farming, you tried to drop the concept in satisfactory manner.
Types of irrigation methods- images, presentation used well.
Presentation was systematic. Thought provoking questions higher order thinking questions to drive forward the lesson were used only at times only as in case of wick irrigation.
Eye contact, pleasant interaction were noticed at many times.
Negatives: Not given students to have keen observation on greenhouse slide and asking them to write its name by themselves and its features and advantages in science diary by themselves individual initiatives was reduced. B.B was not used to write about green house and details. Didnt ask students to read slide by themselves. Do not made them to construct their own knowledge. Do not allotted the students to read out the explanation slides in case of drip irrigation like all methods.
Reinforcement were reduced. Confusion with hint chart on group discussing. Clear instruction at beginning was not given. Time management was poor.
Development of lesson is satisfactory.
Learning experiences
Positives: Life related, variety,child friendly, considered all levels of learners.
Negatives: Participation was reduced by using it properly.
Learning experience is good.
A-V aids
Positives: Good, adequate, age appropriate, interesting, engaging, beneficial.
Negatives: Failed to maximize the slide image while presenting the each one in types of irrigation methods images. Be careful that all students have noticed or viewed the learning aids. Used orange coloured sketch in chart. Not legible and visible.
A-V aids use is satisfactory.
Learner involvement
Positives: Actively engaged in interacting with teacher.
Negatives: Self construction of knowledge , initiatives and autonomy is reduced.
Learner involvement is satisfactory.
Mastery of subject matter
Positives: Adequate supplementary knowledge thorough , deep, content knowledge, accurate.
Negatives: Reduced understanding about the delivery as per objectives.
Mastery of subject matter is good.
Class management
Positives: Good rapport, support, recognised attending and non attending students. Tried to keep eyecontact and scaffolding during group activity. Students were self disciplined well.
Class management is Very good.
Closure of the lesson
Positives: Summarised by using group activity.
Negatives: Review was done all on a sudden.
Closure of the lesson is good.
Assessment and evaluation
Positives: Formative assessement is seen throughout the class as per targeted objectives as helpful scaffold.
Negatives: First call students and then ask questions.
Assessment and evaluation is satisfactory.
Overall effectiveness of teaching- Satisfactory.(B Grade)
OVERALL REFLECTION OF CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE
The students of 8th and 9th standard were given teaching manual oriented activity based classroom experience. Two teaching manual of 9th standard and one teaching manual of 8th standard were completed effectively. 4 charts, 3 cutouts,3 videos,6 pictures,5 slides, activity cards etc were prepared. Students were given follow up activities like poster making, completed table, assignements etc.
