GENERAL REFLECTION-WEEK 3
GENERAL REFLECTION
On 2nd August 2025, we had our general reflection session as part of our Phase 1 teaching practice. The session was conducted in the presence of our Principal Dr. Roy Sir, Sreedevi Miss, Shamla Miss, Shyam Sir, and Rakhi Miss. Many students were absent. The reflection started at 11:00 a.m. in the general hall, with Roy Sir initiating the session by greeting us.
The Principal explained the further schedule, informing us that we were allowed to stay in schools till 14th August and should complete our allotted chapters before then. He also mentioned that we were to report back to college on 18th August. Then, one student representative from each school was invited to share their experiences.
I represented Karukone School and shared our three-week experiences. I mentioned the positive approach of the HM and teachers towards us, my classroom experiences, and the confidence I gained in blackboard writing. I also shared about teacher observations, the suggestions I received, and my concern about completing the topics before 14th August.
After me, Reeba from Sabarigiri HSS shared that she had made students love the subject but faced difficulty using the blackboard due to an allergy. Kripa from Edamulackal Jawahar shared that she could manage the classroom well. Keerthi from Puthayam All Saints School spoke about improving her voice modulation and blackboard usage. Pooja from Karavaloor School shared more negative experiences, mentioning that teacher trainees there faced avoidance and unwelcoming approaches, making teaching uncomfortable. Aravind from Vayala School highlighted the issue of overcrowded classes with 60 students. Alaka from Jawahar HSS Ayur shared her experience and mentioned the scarcity of students in that school. There is only total 12 students in 8th std. Shamnad from VVHSS Poredom, Silla from Yeroor GHSS, Stephy from St Goretti HSS Punalur and Gloria from West HSS also shared their experiences.
Later, our option teachers shared their experiences of observing our classes. Sreedevi Miss (Natural Science) spoke positively and mentioned that her first observation was in my class at Karukone School. She said that since I was not fully prepared, it gave her an opportunity to provide more suggestions. She appreciated Pooja for buying a projector on her own. She concluded that the Phase 1 observations were successful as they were conducted as surprise visits.
Shamla Miss (English) shared that many student teachers seemed very tensed during observations and wished us all the best for the rest of the practice. Shyam Sir (Physical Science) advised that several trainees needed improvement in classroom management and legibility of chart writing. Rakhi Miss (Social Science) also shared her experience, saying that surprise visits made student teachers a bit panicked but overall it was a good experience.
The session concluded by 1:15 p.m. After lunch, we had a session with our option teacher, Sreedevi Miss, who signed our lesson plans, reflective journals, and reviewed our rough diagnostic question papers. She gave further instructions to help us focus on the upcoming phase of teaching practice.
Overall, the reflection session was highly beneficial and motivating, providing us with valuable insights and guidance for improvement.
