TEACHING PRACTICE PHASE 1- Fifth week
TEACHING PRACTICE WEEK 5: Monday (11/08/2025 ) to Friday (16/08/2025)
REFLECTION ON SCHOOL EXPERIENCE
Day 22: Monday (11/08/2025)
On the 22nd day, we reached the school at 9:30 a.m. and signed the attendance register. After completing our morning discipline duty, we stayed in the allotted classrooms. I did not have any concerned class hours today. During the lunch break, we helped in serving food to the students. In the 5th period, I got a substitution class in 8B, where I took an individual remedial session on Irrigation Methods. I used a modified lesson plan with more ICT-enabled learning aids, followed by a discussion of some model questions with the students. At 4:00 p.m., after marking our attendance, we left the school.
Day 23: Tuesday (12/08/2025)
On the 23rd day, we four teacher trainees reached the school at 9:30 a.m. and signed the register. After discipline duty in the HS section, we went to our staffroom. I had the 2nd period in 9B, where I taught a topic Digestion process in stomach. During the 6th period, I took a substitution class in 5A. After 4:00 p.m., once the students left, we signed the register and dispersed from school.
Day 24: Wednesday (13/08/2025)
On the 24th day, we reached the school at 9:30 a.m. and signed the register. After our HS section discipline duty, we attended the English Assembly organized under the guidance of Sharika teacher and Manju teacher. The entire program—from prayer and pledge to speeches—was presented in English.
An innovative skit was staged, where HS students dressed up as Shakespeare’s characters such as Desdemona, Othello, Macbeth, and Caesar, while a student dressed as Shakespeare introduced them. The performance was highly impressive and well appreciated. Then UP section students performed a dance performance. The HM-in-charge Smt. Sumathi teacher inaugurated the English Club afterward. In the 1st period, I got substitution in 8B, where I conducted a whole-class remedial session on Smart Farming Techniques, Features, and Advantages, using charts and interactive activities. At noon, we joined in lunch distribution. In the 7th period, I again handled 8B (concerned class), conducting a group remedial class using ICT on Types of Pests, Their Control Mechanisms, and IPM, based on the diagnostic test report. By 4:00 p.m., we signed out and left the school.
Day 25: Thursday (14/08/2025)
On the 25th day, we reached school at 9:00 a.m., signed the register, and helped with the arrangements for the School Parliament Election. After that, we attended discipline duty.
The day began with a Sanskrit Assembly under the guidance of Aswathy teacher. The prayer, pledge, anchoring, and news reading were all presented in Sanskrit. UP students beautifully performed Vanjipattu in Sanskrit, which was enjoyed by everyone. The HM also inaugurated the Sanskrit Club. The Parliament Election for both UP and HS sections was conducted with six booths. I was assigned overall observation and photography duty. The election was carried out exactly like the real one—ballot papers, ink, polling officers, and even security managed by JRC, Scouts, and Guides. Students participated with great enthusiasm, marking their ballots secretly and dropping them into the boxes. By noon, the ballot boxes were sealed and the vote counting began. The atmosphere was filled with great excitement and enthusiasm. I was in charge of counting the votes for class 6B, where the candidates were eagerly awaiting the results. Later, the winners were announced by Jayakumar sir and Saju sir, and the newly elected leaders were introduced in front of the students
After this, a Kalashakottu program was organized, where both teachers and students danced together joyfully. At noon, we helped with the lunch distribution. In the 5th period, I took 9B, where I discussed previous years’ questions. 6th period we conducted quiz related to independence day in supervision of Jayakumar sir. I read them questions and other student teachers led supervision. First prize was for Anushma of 9th standard. In the 7th period, I had a substitution class in 3A, where I engaged students with games. Managing small children was challenging, especially handling a hyperactive student, but it was a good experience.
At 3:30 p.m., after students left, we stayed back for the SRG Meeting at 4:00 p.m. Along with staff teachers, we also participated. The meeting focused on Onam celebration plans, Onam examinations, school maintenance, discipline, and Independence Day celebrations. The HM gave precise instructions, and teachers shared their views. The meeting ended at 5:00 p.m., after which we signed the register and left.
Day 26: Friday (15/08/2025)
Since it was Independence Day, no regular classes were held.
Day 27: Saturday (16/08/2025)
On the 27th day, we reached the school at 9:30 a.m., signed the register, and attended discipline duty in the HS section. This was a special day as it was our last day before the Onam vacation.
Since it was Saturday, the school followed Friday’s timetable. In the 1st period, I had my concerned class in 8B, where I discussed model questions with the students. At noon, we joined in the lunch distribution. I did not have any further classes for the day. By 3:00 p.m., after school dispersed, we signed the register, shared some friendly conversations, and bid farewell to the teachers before leaving. Thus, our first phase of teaching practice before the Onam break came to a memorable close.
CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
During this week, I taught students of 9th standard using the prepared teaching manual from their respective chapter. For 9th standard students, I handled topic from the chapter Digestive system and transport of nutrients, which included the Digestion process in stomach. Also I also conducted individual, whole-class, and group remedial sessions in 8B according to the diagnostic test report. The topics taken were Irrigation Methods, Types of smart farming techniques, it's features and advantages, and Types of pest, it's control mechanisms and IPM respectively. Appropriate teaching aids like slides, charts and activity cards were used. Reflective journal for the week was also completed.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
This week was enriched with various extracurricular activities, including the English and Sanskrit assemblies that showcased vibrant student participation. A quiz related to Independence Day added to the excitement, while the School Parliament Election became a unique learning experience for the students. Altogether, the week was highly productive, marked by active student involvement, creative programs, and valuable new experiences.
OVERALL REFLECTION ON CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE
This week, I taught only one topic in class 9B and conducted remedial teaching in class 8B. One teaching manual for 9th std was completed effectively. And three remedial teaching manuals for individual, group and whole remedial classes were completed. I also discussed model questions and previous years’ questions in class. Since this was the last week in school before the Onam vacation, it was truly a great experience. The students’ eagerness to learn and their curiosity in asking doubts encouraged me a lot. I sincerely hope they perform well in their upcoming exams.
