TEACHING PRACTICE PHASE 1- EIGHTH WEEK
TEACHING PRACTICE WEEK 8: Monday (22/09/2025 ) to Friday (26/09/2025)
REFLECTION ON SCHOOL EXPERIENCE
Day 38: Monday (22/09/2025)
On the 38th day of our teaching practice, we reached the school at 9:30 a.m. In the morning, I had discipline duty in the HS section. After that, I signed the attendance register and went to our allotted classroom. Since it was Monday, I had no regular classes.
During the 3rd period, I went for substitution in 8B and taught the topic “Parts and Functions of a Compound and Simple Microscope.” In the 4th period, I was assigned duty to conduct a quiz for LP students. The first was a Kadamkatha Quiz, where the answers given by the students were very funny and enjoyable. Then we conducted a Maths Quiz along with LP teacher Nisha, where I assisted her.
By noon, I helped serve lunch to the students. In the 5th period, I again went to 8B for substitution and taught the topic “Magnification Power of a Microscope and Resolution of the Human Eye.” In the remaining periods, I guided some students with their working model for the next day’s Science Fest — a Hydraulic Bridge based on Pascal’s Law.
At 4:00 p.m., after the students left, we teacher trainees signed the attendance register and returned from school.
Day 39: Tuesday (23/09/2025)
On the 39th day, we four teacher trainees reached the school at 9:30 a.m. and signed the register. In the morning, we were on discipline duty in the HS section.
This day was special as it was the School Sasthrolsavam (Science Fair). Students brought various models, charts, and working devices they had prepared. During the 2nd period, I went to 9B and taught the topic “Role of Oxygen in Respiration and Burning, and the Products Formed.” In the 4th period, I again got substitution in 9B, as many teachers were busy with the exhibition arrangements, so I taught “Parts, Features, and Functions of the Human Respiratory System.” At noon, we served meals for the students. After lunch, I joined in the arrangements for the exhibition and guided students with their work.
By 2:00 p.m., the programs began. My duty was to capture photos and videos of the event and also to maintain discipline. Students from different sections displayed innovative works — working models, still models, charts, puzzles, and live experiments. The Work Experience section showcased activities like necklace and bracelet making, vegetable printing, embroidery, and clay painting. In Mathematics, students created geometric patterns, pictures using sequences, and interesting puzzles. The Science Exhibition was held mainly in three classrooms. The 10th standard students arranged exhibits covering Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics, which excited even the tiny pre-primary children. Some highlights included models of glaciers and mountains, the theories of Bhagra and Khadra, live experiments using litmus paper, demonstrations of air pressure and partial vacuum, and erupting volcano models. The events went smoothly, and by 4:00 p.m., after the students dispersed, we signed the register and left school.
Day 40: Wednesday (24/09/2025)
On the 40th day, we reached school at 9:30 a.m. and took up discipline duty in the HS section. After signing the register, we went to our allotted classroom. In the 3rd period, I went to 8B for substitution and taught “Electron Microscope – Parts, Peculiarities, and Functions.” At noon, we served meals for the students. Later, in the 7th period, I went to 9A for substitution. At 4:00 p.m., after the students left, we marked our attendance in the register and returned home.
Day 41: Thursday (25/09/2025)
On the 41st day, we reached school at 9:30 a.m. and attended discipline duty in the HS section. After signing the register, we went to our allotted classroom.
In the 1st period, I went to 8B and taught “Steps to Prepare an Observation Material and its Inference.” Since the students were already familiar with microscopic views, it was easy for me to explain. I then introduced the next topic, “Peculiarities of the Cell Wall and Cell Membrane of a Plant Cell.”
In the 4th period, I again went to 8B and taught “Difference Between Cytoplasm and Protoplasm with Their Peculiarities.” After serving meals during lunch, I taught 9B in the 5th period, covering “Rate of Ventilation, Its Recording, and Reasons for Increase in Ventilation.”
During the 7th period, we conducted a Conscientization Program for Class 8 girls (A, B, and C divisions) on important adolescent topics:
-
Personal Hygiene & Clean Toilet Habits
-
Menstrual Hygiene & Self-care
-
Mental Health & Stress Management
-
Understanding the Body & Changes During Adolescence
Since the classrooms lacked projector facilities, we first gathered the students in the IT Lab for a presentation, then continued with detailed sessions in their classroom. The class began with Akshaya explaining Personal Hygiene and Clean Toilet Habits. Then Gopika continued with Menstrual Hygiene and Self-care. After that, I took over the session on Mental Health and Stress Management, where I explained:
-
What is mental health?
-
Common stressors in adolescence
-
Healthy ways to manage stress
-
How to avoid unnecessary stress
I used a PPT to make the session engaging. The students listened attentively, raised questions, and made the session interactive. The program was concluded by Aishwarya’s session, and overall it was very effective and beneficial.
At 4:00 p.m., after the students left, we signed the register and dispersed.
Day 42: Friday (26/09/2025)
On the 42nd day, we reached school at 9:30 a.m., completed discipline duty in the HS section, and signed the register.
In the 1st period, I taught 8B the topic “Different Types of Cell Organelles in the Plant Cell – Peculiarities and Functions.” During the 3rd period substitution in 8B, I taught “Types of Plastids in the Plant Cell – Peculiarities and Functions.”
At noon, we served meals for the students. In the 5th period, I taught 9B the topic “Stages of Ventilation.” During the 7th period substitution in 8B, I taught “Types of Permanent Plant Tissues – Peculiarities and Functions.”
At 4:00 p.m., after the students left, we teacher trainees marked our attendance and left the school.
