REFLECTION ON SCHOOL EXPERIENCE
DAY 1: Wednesday, 08/10/2025
Today was the first day of my teaching Practice Phase 2. We were assigned duty for the Sub-District Science Fest at GHSS Yeroor. Following the AEO's instructions, we reached the school by 8:30 AM. By 8:45 AM, we received instructions on how to invigilate the different programs. All college juniors and seniors on duty were there. We signed the duty list and received our tasks. I was allotted to the elocution competition for the UP, HS, and HSS sections. Sandhya teacher gave us the instructions. My team included Aparna, Ameena, and Krishna Priya (a junior). We took the students to one room for seating and began registration, giving out chest numbers. The competition was held in another room with two judges present. I arranged the classroom for the judges. By 10:30 AM, the two judges arrived, and we started with the UP section. A challenge for the students was that the topic was given only five minutes before their speech. They had just five minutes to prepare and present. The topic for UP students was Ente Vidyalayam, Ente Veekshanam. Many students performed well, but some felt nervous. Motivating them and giving them confidence was a key concern for me. The HS topic was Acharangalum, Andhavishwasangalum, Samuhathil Chelluthuna Swadeenam, which was a relevant subject. For HSS, there were only four students, and their topic was Akhila Samadanathin Indian Videsha Nayathinte Pank. This was also a challenging topic, but the students performed well. The competition ended by 1:00 PM. Aparna and I helped the judges with the result tabulation.
We had lunch at the school, which included rice, sambar, thoran, aviyal, pickle, pappadam, and payasam. We got a chance to explore other competitions as well. There were Social Science items like still models, working models, atlas making, essay writing, chart preparation, and album making. Most of the items involved live preparation, which was a new experience. We left school by 3:00 PM. The AEO appreciated our responsible duty in the meeting after the program.
DAY 2 : Thursday ,09/09/2025Today also, we were on duty for the Science Fest in GHSS Yeroor. We reached the school by 8:30 AM. We signed in and received our duties. Today's competitions were mainly maths and science related. I was assigned duty in the hall for the Maths Number Chart competition for UP students, along with Aparna. We finished registration, and the competition started by 11:40 AM. The students had three hours for the live preparation of their charts. By 2:00 PM, the judges arrived and evaluated each student's work. Then we had lunch. Today's lunch was fried rice, chicken curry, salad, and pappadam. Afterward, we assisted with other competitions in different rooms while waiting for the judges. Many other items were there, such as still models, working models, puzzles, pattern making, and learning aid making. I left the school by 6:15 PM. It was a whole new experience.
DAY 3: Friday , 10/10/2025
On the third day of the second phase of teaching practice, I reached the school by 9:30 a.m. and went to the office to sign the attendance register. I had the first period with 8B, and since their class teacher was absent, I was assigned the duty of taking charge of the class. I collected the list of students who were selected for the sub-district Kalolsavam and district science fest.
During the third period, I got a substitution in 9A, where I engaged the students in reading the textbook. During lunch break, we served food to the students as part of the mid-day meal programme, and later had our lunch. After lunch, there was a photo session for the students who won prizes in the science fest. GHSS Karukone secured the overall third position in the fest, overall second in HS Maths and Science, and overall second in LP section. I took photos and videos of the event for the school. By 4:00 p.m., after the national anthem, the school dispersed. We signed the attendance register and left the school.
