REFLECTION ON SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

Day 9-Monday, October 20th

It was a holiday today for Diwali.

Day 10-Tuesday, October 21st, 2025

We arrived at school around 9:30 AM, signed the attendance register, and took our seats in the staffroom. Second period I had concerned class 9B and I taught Role of stomata, lenticels and cells in roots in gaseous exchange in plants. Many teachers were busy organizing a tour for the 10th standard students, and a coordination meeting for the tour was held during the noon hour.

For the 3rd period, I supervised the 7th standard students and took them to the ground for P.T. During the lunch break, we served lunch to the students. Later, in the 6th period, I took the 5B class to the library for a reading session.

The entire day felt like chaos, filled with substitutions as many teachers were absent. Due to the high number of absences, school dispersed early at 3:30 PM. We signed the attendance register and headed home.

Day 11-Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025

We reached school at 9:30 AM for our weekly assembly. The assembly began with the usual prayer and the pledge. Our Headmaster (HM) then delivered a speech focusing on the importance of discipline and maintaining cleanliness on the school campus. He also announced a new rule: practice for the upcoming sub-district youth festival must only happen with a teacher present for guidance. Finally, certificates were distributed to the winners of the Science Fest and Youth Festival.

For the 2nd period, I covered a substitution for the 5A class. Following that, the Upper Primary (UP) teachers asked me to capture some photos of students and their posters related to International Handwashing Day and Food Day, as well as help prepare a video for the school.

We served lunch to the students during the lunch break. Fifth period I got substitution in 8B and taught Contribution of scientists in the field of classification. Afterwards, I had a substitution in 7A where I taught the students some new vocabulary. After the national anthem, school dispersed, and we signed out.

Day 12-Thursday, October 23rd, 2025

I arrived at school at 9:30 AM, signed the register, and settled into the staffroom. UP teacher Thishna asked me to teach a group song and a patriotic song to the 3rd standard students for the upcoming sub-district Kalolsavam (arts festival).

My first period was with my scheduled class, 8B, where I taught a new topic Taxonomy and its importance. I spent the 2nd and 3rd periods teaching the songs to the 3rd standard students. For the 4th period, I covered a substitution in 9A.

We served lunch during the break. In the 5th period, I had 9B, I taught   Anaerobic respiration in lactobacillus bacteria and yeast, with examples from daily life. The 6th period was a substitution in 8C, and I taught another topic in a substitution for 8B during the 7th period. After the national anthem, we signed out and left school.

Day 13-Friday, October 24th, 2025

School started at 9:30 AM as usual. My first period was with my regular class, 8B, and I taught a topic Levels of classification of animals using learning aids. During the 2nd period, I supervised the students' Thiruvathira practice. The highlight of the day was a rally by the students for UN Day. Students sang a peaceful song while holding placards and lighted candles. The rally stopped at the junction where the HM delivered a short speech before they returned to school; I accompanied the students throughout the rally.

We served lunch during the break. I had a substitution in 8B during the 6th period and taught one topic. The school dispersed early at 3:00 PM today due to heavy rain. Once all the students had left, we signed the attendance register and went home.

Day 14-Saturday, October 25th, 2025

I reached school at 9:30 AM for today's working day. Since we were following the Monday timetable, I didn't have any of my own scheduled classes. The weather was heavy rain today. I picked up a substitution in 8B during the 2nd period and taught a topic Levels of classification of plants. During the third period, I was assigned to supervise the Arabic drama practice. The story was about a schoolboy who became addicted to drugs and how he was later rescued. Even though I couldn’t understand all the dialogues, I felt the performance was excellent, and the whole team acted really well. In the fourth period, I got a substitution in class 9B and taught the topic “Major excretory products eliminated from the human body.” During lunch break, we served lunch to the students — since it was Saturday, the number of students was fewer than usual. In the fifth period, Renija teacher asked me to take care of class 9A, as only five boys were present. I allowed them to read in the library for a while and then took them to the ground for some games. During the sixth and seventh periods, as instructed by the senior teachers, we let the 9th standard students play on the ground. The school dispersed at 3:30 p.m., after which we signed the attendance register and left for the day.

CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

During this week, I continued teaching topics from the chapter “Diversity in Living World.” I took a total of six lessons for my concerned class, 8B, as well as additional substitution classes in other grades. The topics covered during the week included: Contribution of scientists in the field of classification, Taxonomy and its importance, Levels of classification of animals, Levels of classification of plants. In 9B I continued topics from chapter " Respiration and excretion",topics Role of stomata, lenticels, and root cells in gaseous exchange in plants ,Anaerobic respiration in Lactobacillus bacteria and yeast with daily life examples.

In addition to these, I also handled several substitution periods for classes 5A, 5B, 7A, 8C, 9A, and 9B, where I engaged the students through reading sessions, vocabulary enrichment, and short discussions related to their syllabus.
ICT tools, charts, and examples from daily life were used wherever possible to make the lessons interactive and student-centered.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Throughout this week, the school was actively engaged in preparations for various programs. On Friday, I accompanied the students in a UN Day rally, where they sang peace songs and carried placards and candles. Mainly students were engaged in practices and I supervised them.

OVERALL REFLECTION ON CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE

I had the opportunity to teach a variety of topics across different grades, which helped me strengthen my classroom management and adaptability skills. My classes with 8B went smoothly, and the students showed enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the lessons. Using ICT tools and relatable examples made the sessions more engaging and easier to understand.
