TEACHING PRACTICE PHASE II- WEEK 2

TEACHING PRACTICE WEEK 2: Monday (13/10/2025 ) and Friday(17/10/2025)

REFLECTION ON SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

Day 4 – Monday, 13/10/2025

On the fourth day of my teaching practice, I reached the school by 9.20 am. There were junior trainees waiting for the Headmaster to begin their five-day induction programme. By 9.30 am, the Headmaster arrived, and I signed the attendance register. He asked me to help in the school kitchen as the menu for the day was chicken curry and fried rice, prepared for the entire school to celebrate the victory in the Science Fest.

I was not alone; two UP teachers, Sanskrit teacher Ashwathy, and cooking staff Praseeda aunty were also helping. I assisted in chopping vegetables and squeezing lemons. I realized how hard it is for a single person to cook such a large quantity of food. In between, Akshaya also came and helped. At the same time there was special assembly going on to congratulate the winners in science fest. By 11.30 am, everything was set on the cooking stoves, and I returned to the staffroom. HM appreciated our efforts mentioning in school group.

During the fourth period, we were assigned to invigilate the JRC Quiz competition along with the juniors. In the afternoon, we served lunch. The students were very happy, and we also got to taste the delicious chicken curry. After the lunch break, I discussed the upcoming plans with two junior B.Ed. trainees from Natural Science, Anupama and Alaka. I gave them topics for individual and shared classes.

By 3.00 pm, a rally was organized to Karukone Junction with the trophies won at the Science Fest. I accompanied them and took photos and videos for school purposes. By 4.00 pm, the school dispersed. We signed the attendance register and left the school.

Day 5 – Tuesday, 14/10/2025

We teacher trainees reached the school, signed the attendance register, and seated ourselves in the allotted staffroom. I didn’t have the first period. During the second period, I observed junior B.Ed. trainee Anupama taking her individual lesson in class 9B. It was a good experience to watch her class and observe the students’ responses. Since some time was left, I gave the pending notes to the students. Afterward, Anupama asked for my opinions, and we shared our thoughts. She used a chart as a learning aid, which was a very good approach.

After lunch, I had substitution in class 5B during the sixth period. As a gesture of love, the students gave me drawings and writings they had made themselves. Sometimes small things like these matter a lot—it was truly heartwarming. In the seventh period, I distributed the changed timetable to the students of classes 8 and 9.

After the national anthem, the school dispersed by 3.45 pm. Once the students left, we signed the attendance register and left the school.

Day 6: Wednesday (October 15, 2025)

On the sixth day of our second phase teaching practice, the four of us teacher trainees arrived at the school at 9:30 a.m. After signing the register, we went to the classroom designated for us to work. Our junior trainees were with us.

During the second period, I had a substitution for my concerned class, 9B. Instead, the juniors took a shared lesson, as per the direction from our college, and I observed their teaching. This fulfilled their requirement of taking an individual class, a shared class, and observing one of my classes.

During the lunch break, we helped serve food to the students. In the sixth period, I had a substitution in 1st Standard, and later, in the eighth period, I went to 8A for another substitution. After the school ended at 4 p.m. and the students had left, we signed the register and departed.

Day 7: Thursday (October 16, 2025)

We reached the school at 9:30 a.m. on the seventh day of our teaching practice, signed the attendance register, and went to our classroom. I didn't have any of my own scheduled classes that day.

It was the day scheduled for student vaccination, with a doctor from the health department arriving to administer the vaccines. The vaccines were for 10-year-old and 15-year-old students for immunity against diphtheria and tetanus. I was given duty to help manage the students and guide them to the vaccination hall.

I had several substitution periods: in 9A during the second period, where I gave notes to the students; in 6B during the fourth period; and another substitution in 5B as well. During the lunch break, we again helped serve food to the students. In the seventh period, I was on library duty. After the school ended at 4 p.m. and the students had left, we signed the register and left the school.

Day 8: Friday (October 17, 2025)

The eighth day of our teaching practice began at 9:30 a.m. when we signed the register and moved to our designated classroom. Today was especially important as it was the observation day of our optional teacher, Sreedevi Miss, who arrived around the same time.

My class observation was in the first period in 8B. I taught the topic "Classification and Importance of Classification", utilizing charts and other teaching materials. The junior trainees also observed my lesson. In the second period, Miss Sreedevi observed Akshaya's class in 9C.

In the fourth period, I got a substitution in 9A, where I gave Biology notes. We helped serve food to the students during the lunch break. I had substitutions in multiple classes during the last two periods. However, most of the students had gone for Kalolsavam practice, so I wasn't able to teach effectively in the final period.

Today was also the last day of induction for the juniors, and they graciously distributed sweets to all the teachers and to us. After the school ended at 4 p.m. and the students had left, we signed the register and departed.

 * Students were still in front of chart.

 * Though you tried, but some stood in front of chart.

 * Reinforcement is reduced at many time.

 * B.B is not used to introduce the basis of classification—you could have wrote the basis told by students on B.B. & later sessions too.

 * Be sure about this hereafter.
