TEACHING PRACTICE PHASE 2- WEEK 7
TEACHING PRACTICE PHASE 2- WEEK 7 (17/11/2025,Monday - 19/11/2025,Wednesday)
REFLECTION ON SCHOOL EXPERIENCE
DAY 30: MONDAY,21/11/2025
On the 30th day of our teaching practice, we four teacher trainees reached the school by 9:30 a.m., signed the attendance register, and went to the staffroom allotted to us. During the 4th period, I got substitution in Class 8B, where I presented my innovative work. It was a fun and engaging session.
My innovative work was titled “Forest Election”, which included all election procedures. I prepared materials such as a ballot box, candidates’ posters, ballot papers, and election ID cards for animals and birds.
First, I gave the students clear guidelines for the forest election:
-
Every voter must possess an Election ID Card showing their full taxonomic address, including their Scientific Name.
-
Voters are identified and called forward by the 1st Polling Officer using their Scientific Name only.
-
Each animal (student) is entitled to cast strictly one vote.
-
The 2nd Polling Officer issues the Ballot Paper only after verifying the Scientific Name.
-
The 3rd Polling Officer applies an indelible mark immediately after the ballot is issued.
-
Voters mark their choice privately, fold the ballot, and place it in the Ballot Box.
-
The ballot box is opened in the presence of candidates and the votes are counted to find the final result.
There were three candidates: Elephant, Fox, and Peacock. I selected three students as polling officers and distributed election IDs with animal and bird names to the students. The polling officers called each voter by their scientific name, and the students confidently read them aloud.
The candidates campaigned for votes, and then each “animal” (student) cast their vote secretly. Ink was applied on their hands to make the process realistic. The students enjoyed the activity thoroughly and became familiar with various scientific names and taxonomy classifications. After the voting, we opened the ballot box and counted the votes — the Peacock was declared the winner.
During the lunch break, we helped serve food to the students. In the fifth period, I got substitution in Class 9A, and during the sixth period, I was assigned library duty, where I monitored students as they read books. The school dispersed at 4:00 p.m. After signing the register, we left the school.
DAY 31: TUESDAY,22/11/2025
On the 31st day of our second-phase teaching practice, we reached the school by 9:30 a.m., signed the register, and proceeded to the staffroom.
During the second period, I got substitution in Class 8B and conducted the Achievement Test as informed earlier. I distributed the question papers to the students and monitored them throughout the test. During the third period, I had another substitution in Class 8C.
During the lunch break, we helped serve food to the students. In the fifth period, I got substitution in Class 6B. As it was the second last day at school, we took a few memorable photos together.
At 4:00 p.m., after the school dispersed, we signed the register and left along with the other staff members.
DAY 32: WEDNESDAY,23/11/2025
On the 32nd day of our second-phase teaching practice, we reached the school by 9:30 a.m. Today was our last day at GHSS Karukone, and the day felt very special and emotional for me.
Around 11:00 a.m., the Headmaster arranged a farewell meeting for us to mark the completion of our teaching practice. Staff Secretary Aneesh Sir welcomed everyone and invited the Headmaster to deliver his speech. We received many positive and encouraging words from the teachers. They expressed their gratitude for our contributions and appreciated our work throughout the teaching practice. Listening to their words made me feel truly proud and happy.
The Headmaster also invited us to share our feedback. I spoke about my experiences during the teaching practice and expressed my heartfelt thanks to all teachers for their guidance and support. Physical Education teacher Shiju Sir shared valuable feedback, appreciating our efforts in helping to complete portions in Physical Education for Classes 8 and 9 along with our subject lessons. Our concerned teachers, Renija Miss and Jasmine Miss, also shared their experiences, thanking us for completing the syllabus efficiently and on time.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Jaseela Teacher from the LP section. We then distributed snacks and tea as a token of gratitude and presented small gifts to our concerned teachers and a Parker pen to the Headmaster.
Later, there was a victory rally by students and teachers to celebrate the prizes and trophies won in the Sub-District Kalolsavam. We joined the rally, and I documented the event by taking photos and videos. Some cultural performances were held at Karukone junction as part of the celebration.
During the lunch break, we served food to the students for the last time at Karukone school. It felt emotional. After lunch, we distributed jalebi to the students as a small token of appreciation for their cooperation during our teaching practice. Many students expressed their sadness at our departure. I received small gifts and heartfelt notes from them, and my concerned subject teacher, Renija Miss, also gave me a token of love.
In the sixth period, I had substitution in Class 8B for the last time. I distributed the achievement test papers, discussed the answers, wished them good luck, and said goodbye. The students’ smiles and kind words made me both happy and emotional.
At 3:00 p.m., a special assembly was conducted by the Headmaster, where certificates were distributed to students who participated in various Kalolsavam events. Afterward, we got our records sealed and signed.
At 4:00 p.m., after the students dispersed, we signed the register for the final time and left the school with mixed feelings of happiness and nostalgia.
Leaving GHSS Karukone was truly emotional, but I carried many beautiful memories that I will cherish forever.
CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
During this week, the students of Class 8 were taught using the innovative work “Forest Election”, which integrated creativity with learning. An Achievement Test was also conducted to assess their progress. Reflective journals for the lessons taught were completed during this week as part of our record work.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
As part of extra-curricular activities, we participated in a rally to Karukone junction and attended a special assembly conducted by the Headmaster for distributing certificates to students who participated in various events of the School Kalolsavam.
